When it comes to logistics it is very much necessary to measure the weight and the volumetric weight of the parcel. All the transporters calculated this weight to charge to the customer. They used to charge based on the weight which is higher either volumetric or actual weight. Why is this necessary to measure this?

For example, 10 kg of iron take very small space to accommodate but if we are trying to accommodate the cotton of the same weight. It will take more space. while transport it is necessary to load as much as weight possible to reduce the transport cost of the shipment. To adjust this the transporters found an option to calculate the weight. Volumetric weight = (Length x width x height in cms) / 4500
The divisor may vary depends on the transporter. Each transporter works in different kind, but the most common divisor is 4500 / 5000 only. Have an eye on this divisor while you are signing the document.
Let say if am sending the parcel in the dimensions 60 x 40 x 40 cms. As per the divisor 4500, The volumetric weight is 21kg. But if the divisor value is 2700, then the weight will be 35 kg.You have to pay for around 14 kgs extra to transport the same material with the same dimensions.
